As ‘rescue-ready’ vehicles, they are able to respond to incidents with essential lifesaving and rescue equipment through to providing mobile patrol services and tools in promoting beach safety. What equipment can be found in the vehicles?
The equipment that can be found in the Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X patrol vehicles ranges depending on how they are being used by the lifesaving clubs. The most vital equipment on board is:
- First aid kit
- Resuscitation kit
- Binoculars
- Two-way radios
- Rescue equipment
What Do the vehicles carry on the roof?
Carried on the roof of many vehicles is a rescue board, and in some cases also a stretcher.Where Do These Vehicles Travel
Surf Life Saving vehicles need to be versatile in handling different conditions both on-road and off-road. The Surf Lifesavers use their vehicles across a variety of places:
- On beach for general beach patrols
- As an emergency response vehicle on the beach or other areas
- As a vehicle to attend safety programs
- Surf Lifesavers respond to emergencies in all locations – many have attended and provide emergency first aid in the city and other locations

WHAT IMPORTANT WORK DOES SURF LIFE SAVING DO?
Surf Life Saving Australia take a risk management and evidence based approach to coastal safety to ensure lifesaving services are in place to address coastal safety issues.
Surf Life Saving Australia provides a national lifesaving service including volunteer lifesavers and paid lifeguards as well as the Surf Life Saving Emergency Response system. Lifesavers and lifeguards are trained to nationally recognised standards under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Drones on Patrol
Surf Live Saving Australia are using cutting-edge tech to help keep our beaches safe. Using UAVs, (or better known as drones), they are patrolling beaches and helping keep the community safe with a bird’s-eye view from the sky. Watch the video to see how the D-MAX & MU-X play an important role for the UAV team to help ensure that risks such as sharks are spotted from above.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
There are many ways you can help Surf Life Saving Australia and even get involved with the community. Are you driven to helping people, call the beach your second home and want to get involved in volunteering? Then consider becoming a surf life saver.
Another way to keep our lifesavers patrolling our beaches is by becoming a guardian of the surf. Your monthly donation will help train new lifesavers, improve the skills of their current volunteers and help replace equipment that is constantly exposed to the harsh Australian conditions.
